Tiny Leaf Game 5: The Grace of Small Objects
Sacred Ordinariness in Motivation
Grace hides inside a pocket of repetition, waiting to be found.
Motivation doesn’t always begin with inspiration; sometimes, it begins with objects.
A small jar that catches light. A pen that feels right in your hand. A bead that makes a pleasant sound when it lands.
The world around us offers steady companions for our habits—things that remember our goals FOR us, even when our minds forget. These simple tools don’t pressure; they witness. Over time, their presence weaves a thread of consistency stronger than any app or chart.
When we give our attention to a humble object, we join a quiet company of folks who use their intention to purposefully notice life’s tiny helpers.
The grace of small objects is that they stay even when we can’t. They keep holding the space for our return.
This is sacred ordinariness: the way a routine item can remind us who we are becoming.
How might I treat one tool (cup, jar, notebook, progress markers) with more reverence - appreciating that it holds the door open for me to return?
Mini Practice: Grace in Touch
Hold a bead, pen, or cup.
Trace its edges, temperature, texture.
Feel its quiet willingness to serve—let that steadiness become yours.
May the smallest things remind you of your wholeness.
May your tools become tiny altars of persistence.
May you never overlook the helpers within arm’s reach.
May your workspace hum with calm cooperation.
Pond Practices
Choose one small object to keep near as a touchstone for presence.
Clean or polish one thing that you use daily; let the care itself feel sacred.
Place your chosen object beside a bowl of water; watch its reflection shimmer.
Dip your fingers in the water, then touch the object—linking clarity to continuity.
Calm-Body Exercise
Picture a small object glowing faintly, carrying all the times it has helped you act.
Imagine your daily tools gathered in a circle, quietly proud to serve.
See yourself placing one beloved object in sunlight, saying: “You’ve kept me company.”
Envision each ordinary item humming softly—reminding you that consistency can be tender.
Breathe in gratitude for what is within reach; exhale the need for anything grander.

Instructions for the printable FREEBIE above:
Click the button below, opening the PDF file on Google Drive
OPTION ONE:
Print double-sided on thicker paper such as cardstock and cut out around grey-edged cards
This creates a set of 6 cards with an image on one side and text on the other
Use the text side as a step-by-step CALM BODY EXPERIENCE, reading a line at a time (outloud if possible, to release pent-up breath)
Read one part of the text, flip and repeat it while gazing at the image on the other side
In this way, you can vary your practice from 30 seconds (just reading with only slight pause) to 3 minutes (read #1 - repeat while gazing at image - read/repeat)
OPTION TWO:
Print single-sided on any paper, cut out into 3 horizontal (Left to Right) rows and fold each in half to make mini PAUSE booklets
Open a PAUSE booklet at any time to read and repeat the text (outloud, if possible) while gazing at the image
Use the cards and/or mini booklets as bookmarks or tuck them into your pocket as take-anywhere “Quiet Companions"
